Old Ratcliffian Makes Huge Donation to the School
The Peter Daley Bursarial Award
Old Ratcliffian, Peter Daley (1950 – 1956) has recently announced that he is to donate $630,000 to Ratcliffe College. This will generate interest to the sum of $21,000 per annum. Thus, when the scheme is in its seventh year, there will be seven students throughout the Senior School, one in each year who will benefit from Peter’s generosity. In the meantime whilst the scheme is being rolled out, the Headmaster will appropriate awards to students as he deems appropriate or support the boarding community in some material way.
Any beneficiary of this award must fit in with the following criteria:
- he/she should appreciate the benefits of a Catholic education;
- he/she should ideally be a boarding student;
- his/her parents would be unable to pay the school fees or a part thereof;
- he/she would embrace the cultural, artistic and sporting opportunities which Ratcliffe has to offer.
In light of the Government’s decision to remove charitable status from schools unless they can show provision for under-privileged children, this bursary has come at exactly the right time.
Peter is currently living in New York and has suggested that the Ratcliffian Association hosts a dinner over there in order to encourage other Old Ratcliffians to support the College in some way or other.
The Headmaster, staff and pupils of Ratcliffe College are hugely grateful to Peter for this extremely generous donation.
